Whether you’re dealing with chronic sinus problems, ear infections, or breathing issues, we provide personalized surgical solutions designed to restore function, comfort, and quality of life.

When ENT Surgery Is Needed

In many cases, ENT conditions can be treated successfully with medication, therapy, or non-surgical interventions. However, surgery may be recommended when:

  • Symptoms do not improve with conservative treatment.
  • There is structural damage caused by infection or injury.
  • Conditions cause chronic pain, obstruction, or hearing loss.
  • A biopsy or removal of a growth or tumor is necessary.
  • Restorative or reconstructive procedures are required after trauma or infection.

Our specialists carefully evaluate every patient to determine when surgery is appropriate and tailor each procedure to meet the individual’s needs.

Conditions Treated with ENT Surgery

ENT surgery can address a wide range of conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat, and surrounding structures, including:

  • Sinusitis: Chronic sinus inflammation that persists despite medication.
  • Nasal Obstruction: Blockages caused by a deviated septum, nasal polyps, or chronic congestion.
  • Chronic Ear Infections: Recurrent infections that threaten hearing or cause damage to the eardrum and middle ear.
  • Hearing Loss: Structural problems of the ear that interfere with sound transmission.
  • Sleep Apnea: Obstructions in the airway that disrupt normal breathing during sleep.
  • Tonsillitis or Adenoiditis: Persistent infections that require surgical removal of the tonsils or adenoids.
  • Vertigo and Balance Disorders: Inner ear conditions that may require surgical correction.
  • Head and Neck Tumors: Benign or malignant growths that need removal for diagnosis or treatment.
  • Voice and Swallowing Disorders: Structural issues affecting the throat or vocal cords.

By combining advanced surgical skill with compassionate care, Atlantic ENT ensures that each patient receives the best possible outcome.

Common Types of Ear Surgery

The ear is a delicate and complex organ responsible for both hearing and balance. Our ENT surgeons perform a range of procedures to treat chronic infections, repair damage, and restore function.

Ear Tubes (Tympanostomy)

A small, precise procedure that places tubes in the eardrum to drain fluid and relieve pressure caused by chronic ear infections. This is one of the most common surgeries performed in children and often restores hearing immediately.

Myringoplasty

A surgical repair of small eardrum perforations caused by injury, infection, or trauma. This procedure helps restore normal hearing and prevents recurring infections.

Tympanoplasty

Used to repair larger holes in the eardrum or reconstruct the tiny bones of the middle ear. Tympanoplasty addresses chronic infections and conductive hearing loss while improving comfort and ear function.

Tympanomastoidectomy

This procedure removes infected tissue or bone in the mastoid region behind the ear. It’s often necessary when infection has spread beyond the middle ear to help prevent serious complications.

Stapedectomy

A specialized surgery that treats hearing loss caused by otosclerosis, a condition that affects the stapes bone in the middle ear. The diseased bone is replaced with a prosthetic implant to restore hearing clarity.

Each of these procedures is performed using precise microsurgical techniques to minimize discomfort, reduce downtime, and achieve optimal hearing outcomes.

Advanced ENT Surgical Capabilities

Beyond ear procedures, our team performs a wide range of head and neck surgeries to improve breathing, eliminate infection, and enhance overall well-being. These include:

  • Balloon Sinuplasty for chronic sinus blockage.
  • Septoplasty to correct a deviated septum.
  • Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy for recurring throat infections or airway obstruction.
  • Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery for benign or malignant nodules.
  • Sleep Apnea Surgery to remove airway obstructions and restore healthy sleep patterns.

Our surgical team works closely with audiologists, speech therapists, and allergy specialists to provide comprehensive, integrated care.

Preparing for ENT Surgery

Before surgery, patients meet with their ENT specialist for a detailed evaluation. This includes reviewing medical history, diagnostic imaging, and discussing anesthesia options. We also explain every step of the procedure and provide clear instructions for recovery.

Post-surgical care is just as important as the procedure itself. Our team provides personalized recovery plans that may include follow-up visits, hearing tests, or therapy to ensure full healing and the best possible outcome.

Benefits of ENT Surgery

ENT surgical procedures can deliver meaningful, long-lasting relief from symptoms that impact hearing, breathing, and overall quality of life. Common benefits include:

  • Improved hearing and communication
  • Reduced infection frequency and severity
  • Restored nasal and sinus function
  • Enhanced sleep and breathing
  • Relief from chronic pain or discomfort
  • Protection against future complications

By addressing both functional and structural issues, surgery can restore balance, comfort, and long-term wellness.

Surgical Procedures FAQs

How long do ear tubes stay in?

Most ear tubes naturally fall out after 6 to 12 months. Some may remain longer and require removal by your ENT.

Can my child swim or bathe with ear tubes?

In most cases, it’s safe to swim in clean, chlorinated water, but we recommend avoiding diving and untreated water. Your ENT may suggest earplugs for added protection.

What happens after the tubes fall out?

The eardrum typically heals on its own after the tube falls out. Some children may need a second set if infections recur.

Are ear tubes painful?

The procedure is painless, and most patients feel only mild discomfort for a short time afterward. Over-the-counter pain relievers are usually sufficient.

Can adults get ear tubes?

Yes. Adults can benefit from ear tubes if they experience chronic fluid buildup, pressure changes, or infections that don’t respond to medication.
