Expert Sleep & Snoring Care in Central Florida

Sleep is one of the body’s most essential functions—vital for physical health, mental clarity, and overall quality of life. Yet millions of people struggle with conditions like snoring and sleep apnea that prevent them from getting the rest they need.

At Atlantic Ear, Nose & Throat, our experienced physicians specialize in diagnosing and treating the full range of sleep-related breathing disorders. Using advanced diagnostic technology and personalized treatment plans, we help patients breathe easier, sleep more deeply, and live healthier.

Understanding Sleep Disorders

Sleep disorders related to the ear, nose, and throat are often caused by blockages or abnormalities in the airway that interfere with normal breathing during sleep. Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are among the most common of these conditions, but they can lead to serious health consequences if left untreated.

Our specialists focus on identifying the root cause of airway obstruction—whether nasal, oral, or throat-related—and developing targeted treatment strategies. This may include lifestyle changes, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, or advanced surgical options for patients who require long-term solutions.

At Atlantic ENT, we recognize that every patient’s sleep challenges are unique. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures that each diagnosis and treatment plan is tailored to your symptoms, anatomy, and lifestyle.

Symptoms of Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders

Sleep apnea and snoring often present with subtle but disruptive symptoms. If you or a loved one experience any of the following, it may be time to schedule an evaluation:

  • Loud, chronic snoring that disturbs others
  • Gasping or choking during sleep
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness or fatigue
  • Morning headaches or dry mouth
  • Difficulty concentrating or memory issues
  • Irritability or mood changes
  • Restless sleep or frequent nighttime awakenings

Left untreated, sleep apnea can increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cognitive decline, making early diagnosis and management essential for long-term health.

Our Comprehensive Sleep Services

Atlantic ENT provides a full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic services for sleep-related breathing disorders. Our goal is to ensure accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and long-lasting improvement in sleep quality.

Evaluation of Snoring & Sleep Apnea

Snoring and sleep apnea often share the same root cause—obstruction of the airway during sleep. During your evaluation, our ENT specialists will conduct a detailed examination of your nasal passages, throat, and soft palate to identify any structural or functional issues. Common causes of airway obstruction include:

  • Enlarged tonsils or adenoids
  • Deviated septum or nasal congestion
  • Soft palate or tongue collapse
  • Obesity or excess tissue in the throat

Your evaluation may include a nasal endoscopy or fiberoptic laryngoscopy to visualize airflow and tissue movement during breathing. Based on the findings, your provider will discuss potential next steps, including sleep testing or treatment options.

This comprehensive evaluation helps us determine whether your snoring is benign or a sign of a more serious condition, such as obstructive sleep apnea.

Sleep Apnea Testing

Sleep apnea testing is the cornerstone of accurate diagnosis. At Atlantic ENT, we offer home sleep testing and in-lab sleep studies to monitor breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and sleep cycles.

Home sleep testing provides a convenient, comfortable way to assess your breathing while you sleep in your own bed. The device records vital information that allows our specialists to determine the presence and severity of sleep apnea.

For more complex cases, an in-lab sleep study (polysomnography) may be recommended. This comprehensive test measures brain activity, oxygen saturation, heart rate, and breathing effort under the supervision of a sleep technologist.

Once testing is complete, your ENT physician will review the results and recommend a treatment plan, which may include CPAP therapy, oral appliances, or surgical options depending on your needs and preferences.

Sleep Apnea Surgery

When non-surgical treatments such as CPAP or oral appliances are ineffective or poorly tolerated, surgical intervention may be the best solution. Our ENT surgeons perform a range of procedures to correct anatomical issues that cause airway obstruction and improve airflow during sleep. Surgical options include:

  • Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP): Removes or reshapes tissue in the throat to widen the airway.
  • Tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy: Removes enlarged tonsils or adenoids that block airflow.
  • Nasal surgery: Corrects a deviated septum or nasal obstruction to improve breathing.
  • Tongue base reduction or advancement: Reduces tissue at the back of the tongue to prevent collapse during sleep.

Each surgical approach is customized to the patient’s anatomy and severity of obstruction. Most procedures are minimally invasive and performed on an outpatient basis, with a focus on safety, comfort, and effective long-term results. Following surgery, patients typically experience reduced snoring, improved breathing, and better-quality sleep—often with less dependence on devices like CPAP machines.

The Importance of Early Intervention

Sleep-related breathing disorders can affect more than just rest—they can impact cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and emotional well-being. Early diagnosis and treatment not only restore restful sleep but also reduce the risk of chronic health conditions associated with long-term oxygen deprivation.

At Atlantic ENT, our goal is to help patients breathe freely and rest deeply through advanced, personalized care. Whether your symptoms are mild or severe, we’ll guide you toward the most effective treatment path.
