Diagnosing Your Condition

The Barranco Clinic offers in-office diagnostic procedures and imaging tests to minimize delays in reaching a diagnosis.

In-Office CT Imaging

We offer in-office CT imaging to our patients in an effort to be as efficient and convenient as possible.  These images allow our doctors to visualize any masses and create an individualized treatment plan.

In-Office Laryngoscopy

If you’re experiencing difficulty swallowing or voice changes, we may perform a laryngoscopy. We’ll insert an endoscope with a camera to inspect your throat and voice box. The test takes just minutes to perform in the comfort of our office, and can find polyps, growths, and other abnormalities.

Head and Neck Cancer Evaluation and Surgery

Head and neck cancers most often affect the oral cavities, throat, larynx, sinus cavities, and salivary glands. Symptoms include:

  • A lump in the neck
  • Sore spots in the mouth
  • Voice changes
  • Trouble swallowing
  • A chronic sore throat

If our ENT specialists suspect head and neck cancer, we will perform a full evaluation, which may include blood work, urine samples, endoscopy, X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and more. If we find cancer, we will compose a treatment plan to remove the growths and stop the disease from spreading further.

Tonsillectomy

Tonsils are part of the immune system. They help stave off infection and prevent germs from entering your body. When they get repeatedly infected, we may advise removing them via a tonsillectomy. It's an outpatient procedure that does not require an overnight hospital stay and delivers long-lasting relief from repeated tonsil infections.

Adenoidectomy

The adenoid glands are part of children’s immune systems before the age of seven. They’re responsible for fighting off germs that attempt to enter the body via the nose and mouth. When they become swollen, they can cause breathing problems and chronic infections. When this occurs, we may recommend removing them via an adenoidectomy.

Parathyroid Surgery

Parathyroid surgery is performed to treat hyperparathyroidism. It’s done under general anesthesia and requires small incisions at the base of the neck so your surgeon can access the four parathyroid glands. Depending on your condition, we can remove all or a portion of the glands.

Thyroid Surgery

Thyroid surgery (thyroidectomy) is done to partially or completely remove your thyroid gland. This is done if your gland is over- or under-active or if it develops a tumor or growth. It’s performed under general anesthesia and does not require a hospital stay. Your surgeon will make a small incision at the base of the neck, taking special care to ensure that the resulting scar is discreet.

Salivary Gland Conditions

Salivary glands produce the saliva that moistens your mouth and makes it possible for you to chew, digest food, and communicate. There are three sets of these important glands:

  • Parotid glands are in the upper portion of each cheek
  • Submandibular glands are under the jaw
  • Sublingual glands are beneath the tongue

Common problems that can affect these glands include painful stones, infection, tumors, and growths. In many cases, surgery is required to resolve the condition.

Salivary Gland Surgery

Surgery is recommended for patients with salivary gland tumors (benign or malignant) and deep salivary gland stones that are causing a blockage.

It’s important to note that the salivary glands are close to delicate structures, including the crucial facial nerve. As such, these surgeries are incredibly precise. In most cases, our team of innovative surgeons can perform these procedures using advanced, minimally invasive techniques, ensuring the highest level of precision.
